Amy Schraeder aims to work in the sustainable clothing industry. When Amy isn’t busy studying she likes to hike, hammock, and do creative projects. 

Set on bettering the environment, Amy Schraeder aims to work in sustainable clothing industry

Amy Schraeder learned how to sew in elementary school. Attending a workshop taught through a local sewing shop in her hometown, she quickly discovered her interest in clothing and fashion. 

“I originally wanted to be a fashion designer, but I really enjoy dealing with numbers and thinking analytically so apparel merchandising was the best option,” Amy said.

Now a sophomore at Iowa State University, Amy is studying apparel merchandising to combine her creative and technical sides. She took her interest in bettering peoples’ lives through clothing to the next level by adding a minor in sustainability. Her goal is to work with marketing for a sustainable clothing company to make consumers more aware of earth-friendly options.

Amy feels confident and qualified for her future career due to the work she has put in to her classes and organizations. Her coursework has provided her with the skills she needs to succeed in the apparel industry, and she applies those skills in extracurriculars like The Fashion Show.

“My classes have prepared me for my future career. They have all really helped me learn practical skills that I know will be used later on,” she said. 

As director of the music and technology committee for The Fashion Show, she has gained real-life experience while also developing her leadership skills.

“My involvement in The Fashion Show has allowed me to understand how to help be a part of a larger event,” Amy said. 

Having collected an abundance of experiences in a short amount of time, Amy is looking forward to expanding her knowledge on sustainable clothing and merchandising. She knows she will find success in her field because of her determination and diligence.
